Assistant Professor (M.M. Tariq Hamad Abdul), a lecturer at the Renewable Energy Research Center at Anbar University, published a scientific research paper with other researchers in the international journal "International Journal of Heat and Technology" (Scopus indexed) titled: "Numerical Investigation of Hydrothermal Characteristics in Backward-Facing Step Channel with Obstacles."
The study aims to numerically investigate the effect of adding obstacles of different shapes (circular, square, and diamond) within a channel containing a backward step to improve thermo-hydraulic performance. The effect of the obstruction size and location relative to the step, as well as the effect of flow velocity (Reynolds number) on heat transfer and pressure losses, is analyzed. The results indicate that the circular obstruction provides a significant heat transfer enhancement while achieving the best thermo-hydraulic performance at certain settings, making the research useful for applications requiring efficient thermal management while minimizing energy losses.
